Device Profile: HTC TyTN Pocket PC phone
(Jun. 16, 2006)

The TyTN is the first Pocket PC phone HTC has shipped under its own brand. The focus of this combination PDA and 3G mobile phone is on worldwide connectivity, via Tri-Band UMTS, Quad-Band EDGE, Bluetooth, and WiFi.

The device, which is based on HTC's "Hermes" platform, sports a slide-out, ergonomic QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8-inch color touchscreen. It also packs a 2 megapixel camera with macro mode, on-screen controls, and DSC (Digital Still Camera) functionality, along with a second camera for video telephony. A jog wheel offers easy, one-handed operation, according to HTC.

The TyTN's bundled productivity software package includes a PDF viewer plus the mobile versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additionally, the device is equipped with support for Windows Mobile 5.0 Direct Push technology. Microsoft's direct push, announced one year ago, uses Exchange Server 2003 SP2 to push compressed Outlook information to devices equipped with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for Windows Mobile 5.0.
