Device Profile: IGEL Compact Series thin clients
(Jan. 13, 2005)

IGEL's Compact Series thin clients run Windows CE 5.0 on a 400MHz VIA Eden CPU. The devices, which are part of IGEL's Clever Clients product line, boast high resolution graphics and sound, making them well suited to multi-media applications, and include a built-in smartcard reader/writer for enhanced security and personalization.

According to IGEL, certificate-based authentication using smartcards ensures secure access to applications and data. Another use for the smartcard reader/writer is for personalization; the clients present user-specific sessions or applications upon card insertion.

According to IGEL, an important advantage of thin clients results from their use of centralized system management. IGEL's Clever Clients come with Remote Manager, a tool that enables the thin clients to be quickly and easily configured, and updated from a central location. In addition, Remote Management Suite, another tool included with the Clever Clients, provides updates for both Remote Manager and Clever Client firmware at no extra charge, for the life of the unit, the company says.
