(Aug. 30, 2002)
Icebox LLC, a division of Kitchen appliance maker Salton Inc., introduced the new Icebox FlipScreen 2002 in January at CES. Part of Bill Gates' keynote at the show profiling exciting new technology devices for the wired home, the Icebox has been newly upgraded to Windows CE .NET. The FlipScreen is a kitchen entertainment center offering one-touch access to Cable TV, broadband Internet, DVDs, audio CDs, and security video monitoring. The device was a finalist in TechTV's 'Best of CES' award for 2002.
The new FlipScreen sports a stylish and modern design intended to fit home decor. Icebox offers quick access to information, communication, and entertainment in the kitchen -- the center of the house. The FlipScreen 2002 model will offer the same functionality as the current iCEBOX products, but will also provide touch screen navigation, PC-like Internet browsing, instant messaging, and an enhanced DVD experience. Expanded home networking capabilities allows consumers to connect with the home computer, mobile device, and other smart appliances in the technology savvy home.
The new FlipScreen comes with a washable, wireless keyboard and remote control that rely on infrared (IrDA) wireless technology.
The Icebox aims to serve as the control center for the networked home, with smart-home capabilities for enabled services, such as whole-home audio, integrated home security, lighting, and Internet access.
