Orange Business Services is rolling out a new Windows Mobile Pocket PC phone in Europe, with support for EDGE, WiFi, and HSDPA networks. The SPV-M3100, based on the HTC "Hermes" platform, features a slideout QWERTY keyboard and supports video messaging and calling using its integrated camera, according to the company.

With a full suite of Office Mobile applications, the M3100 is being aimed at "heavy data" users who want mobile access to documents and applications, says Orange. The device is positioned as a "genuinely viable laptop alternative."

HTC announced in June that it would sell the Hermes platform under its own brand as the TyTN. Dopod, soon to be acquired by HTC, markets the platform as the 838Pro. For further details and photos of the Hermes platform, read our TyTN device profile.

Orange says the SPV M3100 will be launched in a phased rollout across most of the company's "European footprint":
        • Switzerland and the UK -- August 2006
        • France and Romania -- September 2006
        • Slovakia and Spain -- Q4 2006
        Pricing was not disclosed.
