Summit Data Communications has added two new products to its line of WiFi radio cards and has ported its WiFi software stack to Windows XP and XP Embedded. The 20G family of cards provides wireless LAN access to mobile devices with external CompactFlash and PCMCIA slots.

The 20G family currently consists of two products: the CF20G CompactFlash card, and the PC20G PCMCIA card. Both cards combine a Summit 10G family 802.11g radio module with a high-performance diversity antenna under a protective cover. The 20G family is "Wi-Fi Certified," and also is certified for Cisco Compatible Extensions Version 3 for ASDs (application specific devices), according to the company.

Summit says it initially released its software suite on Windows CE and Windows Mobile because those are the predominant operating systems for data terminals and similar devices. Porting the software to Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded opens up many new applications, according to the company.

        Availability

The 20G cards are currently available in small quantities, and are expected to reach full production in July, Summit said. The CF20G is priced at $119, while the PC20G goes for $139, and volume discounts available to "qualified mobile device vendors." Summit's WiFi software stack for Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded is expected to be available by July.
