According to AML, its KDT900 is suited for a wide variety of retail operations, including acting as a time and attendance terminal, a price checking kiosk, an access control device, or a digital sign. Unlike most such devices, it may be powered via either a 12VDC input or PoE, and is available with an optional internal UPS battery (2200mAh) that provides two hours of operation, the company says.

As pictured above, the KDT900 features a 5.6-inch touchscreen display with VGA (640 x 480 pixels) resolution, plus four integrated pushbuttons and a front-panel speaker. In addition to 10/100 Ethernet, the device offers an optional 802/11b/g/n wireless networking module, AML says.
Standard interfaces are said to include three USB 1.1 host ports, two RS232 ports (one with an RJ45 connector, one with a header), one Wiegand interface, two isolated digital inputs, and two isolated micro-replay outputs. Options include a MSR (shown at top of unit, below left), a HID proximity card reader (below right) for access control, and 1D or omnidirectional 2D barcode scanners.

AMD says the KDT900 runs Windows CE 5.0 via a 202MHz Samsung S3C2410 processor, which has an ARM9 core. The device has 64MB of RAM, 1GB of flash storage, and an additional 1GB via a bundled SD card. Microsoft's Internet Explorer and RDP (remote desktop protocol) client are also included, the company adds.
Available with a variety of mounting accessories, the KDT900 measures 6.62 x 5.75 x 2 inches and weights just 0.8 pounds, according to AML. The device's standard color is black, as shown in our photos, but AML says retailers can order the unit with custom colors and branding, too.
