Adlink announced a vision-oriented computer based on a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The EOS-1000 has six gigabit Ethernet ports, four of them for cameras, CompactFlash and hard disk storage, and optional digital I/O, the company says.

Adlink's EOS-1000 is built around a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU and the GM45 Express chipset. The computer includes four gigabit Ethernet ports, each capable of supplying power to a camera that can distant by as far as 328 feet (100m), Adlink says. Available frame rates and resolutions are not specified, but four cameras may be connected simultaneously, the company adds.

The device's front panel, shown below left, also features two gigabit Ethernet ports for data networking, a VGA output, a serial port, two USB 2.0 ports, and a PS/2 port. According to Adlink, 32 isolated digital I/O lines (16 in and 16 out) are optionally available. The EOS-1000's rear panel, below right, includes another serial port, two additional USB 2.0 ports, plus a microphone input and speaker output.

Adlink notes that it's good practice in vision applications to have two forms of data storage -- one for holding the operating system and other software, and the other for holding video, images, and log files. Accordingly, the EOS-1000 has a front-accessible CompactFlash slot, intended for the installation of Windows XP or Windows XP Embedded, plus an internal bay for a 2.5-inch hard disk drive.

According to Adlink, the EOS-1000 accepts up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, presumably via two SODIMM slots. The device's VGA port supports displays with resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels, the company adds.

Finally, Adlink says the EOS-1000 includes an easily removable filter for its internal fan, plus a watchdog timer and temperature/voltage monitoring. Operating range is from 32 to 131 deg. F (0 to 55 deg. C), the company adds.

Features and specifications listed by Adlink for the EOS-1000 include:
