Advantech has begun releasing Windows CE 6.0 board support packages (BSPs) for its extensive single-board computer (SBC) product line. The new BSPs offer system integrators a complete set of components to enable rapid prototyping, development, and demonstrations of Windows CE 6.0-based applications, according to the company.

The first two SBCs supported by Advantech's new Windows CE 6.0 BSPs are the company's 3.5-inch "biscuit" form-factor PCM-9375 and the ETX form-factor SOM-4481. The PCM-9375 is based on an AMD Geode LX 800@0.9W processor, and features total power consumption of around 6W with 256 MB of DDR memory and 256 MB of CompactFlash, according to Advantech. The SOM-4481, meanwhile, is a fanless ETX module based on a Pentium M or Celeron M processor, and aimed at high-performance processing and graphics applications.

Jack Huang, vice president of Advantech's Embedded Computing Group, stated that "As a Microsoft VAP and Gold Level Partner, we are proud to recommend the new Windows CE 6.0 embedded OS," Advantech plans to "take full advantage of the new features of Windows CE 6.0 to enhance our hardware platform functions helping our customers design more stable and compatible products."

"More and more platforms will be Windows CE 6.0 ready soon," Huang added.

Customers are advised to contact their local Advantech sales office or distributor for the Windows CE 6.0 BSP and evaluation image support.
