The German company Andres Industries has announced a Windows CE handheld computer that includes a cellular modem, 1.3 megapixel camera, plus GPS and barcode scanning options. The RPDA 835, featuring an optional flip-up display cover, is waterproof and impact-resistant, the company says.

Andres' RPDA 835 is distinguished by a flip-up, transparent cover for its display, said to provide additional protection against mechanical hazards. With or without the cover, however, the device is said to meet the IP65 standard for sealing against liquids and dust, plus the MIL-STD-810F standard for impact strength. The handheld may be used in temperatures from -4 to 104 deg. F, the company adds.

The RPDA 835 includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen display with VGA (640 x 480 pixels) resolution, plus a five-way controller and six function keys. It is available with either a Marvell PXA270 processor, in 300MHz or 512MHz versions, or an 806MHz Marvell PXA320 CPU, says Andres.

According to the company, the RPDA 835 comes with 128MB of RAM, 32MB of flash storage, and 1GB of "disk on chip" storage. The device is also said to include a GPS receiver, Bluetooth 2.0, and a cellular modem compatible with HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) networking. Wireless local area networking (802.11b/g) is also offered, but not on PXA320 configurations, the company says.

The RPDA 835 also sports a camera, apparently available in 1.3 and two megapixel versions, and a 1D/2D barcode scanner. Andres says that if the barcode scanner is installed internally, there's no room for the GPS receiver. However, both GPS and barcode scanning may be provided when the latter is implemented via a snap-on module. There's also a snap-on module that provides the device with RFID scanning capabilities, the company adds.

Features and specifications listed for the RPDA 835 by Andres include the following:
