(Click for larger screenshot)Utimaco says that SafeGuard PDA provides complete encryption of the entire storage capacity of the mobile device. Additionally, it protects outgoing email attachments with a self-extracting, passphrase-protected capability, the company says.
In the event of a lost or stolen device, all data is protected in all power, the company claims. "Even if a hard drive is removed from its host unit, the resident data is locked behind an impenetrable shield," Utimaco says.
"In Chicago alone, taxi drivers recently reported that during a six-month period, 21,460 PDA's and Pocket PCs were accidentally left behind in their cabs," the company notes.

Additionally, for Windows Mobile PDA phones, the app provides an option for a GSM SIM lock that prevents unauthorized change of SIM card, the company says.
Utimaco also offers a management application for SafeGuard PDA, said to provide centralized administration, including remote provisioning as well as easy policy management and IT maintenance.
SafeGuard PDA encryption software is currently available in both Enterprise and Personal editions, for smartphones and PDAs based on Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 2003, as well as for Palm OS and Symbian OS devices, according to the company. A free-trial download version is available on the company's website.
