RTX is an extension that adds real-time capabilities to Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded. According to Ardence, RTX implements deterministic scheduling of real-time threads, inter-process communication mechanisms between the real-time environment and the native Windows XP environment, and various other features that are similar to those found in "traditional" real-time operating systems (RTOSes).
ReadyOn offers instant-on/off capabilities to Windows-based systems and devices "by eliminating long start-up and power-down times for [Windows] XP Embedded and [Windows] XP Professional operating systems," Ardence says.
ETS is Ardence's own embedded RTOS. Ardence obtained ETS as part of its September, 2000 acquisition of Phar Lap software.
Ardence also said it will discontinue reselling licenses of Microsoft's embedded operating systems as of November 1st. The move is meant to enable "sharper focus on carrying out its strategic plan to enhance its own embedded software products by developing and delivering more valuable features and functionality," according to the company.
Ardence said it will continue to provide consulting services on Windows embedded development projects, and that it intends to retain its status as a Microsoft gold-level partner and as a Windows Embedded Partner.
Later this month, Ardence will announce a "long-term, strategic sales partnership" that will "lead all Ardence embedded sales initiatives," along with several Asia/Pacific channel partners, it said.
