Sokkia says the SRX "performs fast, highly accurate measurement of building corners, through fences, and to prisms and reflective sheets." When paired with the companion RC-PR3 beam emitter, it points automatically and starts measurement right away.
The RC-PR3 sends out a laser fan beam that is received by a detector unit in the SRX's handle. A directional sensor ensures that the SRX always rotates in the proper direction, "dramatically speeding up one-touch target acquisition," according to the company.

Sokkia's SRX total stationSokkia claims a number of advances (and acronyms) for this, the top model in its line of surveying instruments. An IACS (independent angle calibration system) based on Sokkia's digital-level RAB (random bidirectional) code technology is said to provide the highest-accuracy angle measurement on the market. In addition, a patented 360-degree prism cancels out the vertical and horizontal positioning errors seen in other prisms on the market, the company says.
The SRX and RC-PR3 communicate via Bluetooth 2.0, and the SRX also includes SFX (Sokkia Field-Info Xpress) for transferring data from the field via the Internet. Other methods of data transfer include a USB port and CompactFlash slot that is said to support Type II cards up to 1 GB.
Other features highlighted by Sokkia are the SRX's compact telescope unit, rechargeable lithium-ion battery with easy access for replacement, and jog dials. Additionally, the device's color display is surrounded by keys that are backlit in red, for easy nocturnal operation.
Sokkia does not list hardware specifications for the SRX's Windows CE-powered embedded computer. Measuring range, however, is rated at:
- Reflectorless, from 1 to 1,640 feet
- With reflective sheet target, from 4.3 to 1,640 feet
- With ATP1 prism, from 4.3 to 3,280 feet
- With 1 AP prism, from 4.3 to 16,400 feet
The SRX and RC-PR3 are available now. Pricing was not disclosed.
