Advantech's eAutomation Group is shipping a new model in its ruggedized "embedded automation computer" line, running Windows XP Embedded. The UNO-3072L is powered by an Intel Celeron M processor, offers serial, Ethernet, USB, and PCI-bus expansion capabilities, and targets industrial automation and control tasks.

The UNO-3072L is based on an Intel Celeron M processor, and runs Microsoft's Windows XP Embedded SP2 operating system. Connectivity includes two RS-232 ports, two RS-232/422/485 ports with RS-485 automatic flow control, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, and four USB ports.

The system also provides a number of data acquisition and control interfaces, including: four isolated digital input channels; four isolated digital output channels with timer; and counter and interrupt handling. Additional system expansion is accommodated by means of a pair of internal PCI bus slots.

Physically, the UNO-3072L is said to be "more compact and reliable" than most ordinary industrial PCs, with a fanless design that ensures "consistently" low internal operating temperatures of less than 60 degrees Celsius. The system is rated for 50 G shock and 2 G vibration, and can be mounted in a variety of positions using available wall-, panel-, and stand-mounting kits.

From the software perspective, the UNO-3072L's Windows XP Embedded SP2 software platform includes "optimized" device drivers for the system's hardware, eAutomation says. The system also supports Windows 2000/XP and Linux, for applications requiring those OSes.

        Availability

The UNO-3072L automation computer appears to be immediately available. Pricing was not disclosed.
