AutoEnginuity has released version 3.0 of its OBD-II (On Board Diagnostic II) software that runs on Pocket PCs. ScanTool 3.0 supports all three commonly used vehicle interfaces plus, optionally, CAN. ScanTool includes an adapter that translates a vehicle's Data Link Connector (DLC) to RS-232 for connection to a Pocket PC. ...

The company also provides optional support for Bluetooth.

AutoEnginuity describes ScanTool as a "complete OBD-II implementation." It reads vehicle diagnostic trouble codes, live vehicle sensors (including wide-band O2 sensors), and inspection/maintenance system test results to quickly determine what service is requireed. Data logging can be done in two different formats -- XML for browsers, and CSV for spreadsheets. The company says its proprietary logging methods support logging of up to nine sensors with 1 ms accuracy.

AutoEnginuity points out that many states in the US are now using OBD-II based emissions tests. With ScanTool, a vehicle owner can save time and money by determining ahead of time whether or not the vehicle will pass the test.
