BSP brings Windows CE 5.0 to Alchemy Au1200

Bsquare has announced a board support package (BSP) for Windows CE 5.0 running on the Alchemy DBAu1200 development kit from Advanced Micro Devices. Targeted at developers of portable media devices, it includes Windows CE bootloader and OAL source code, peripheral drivers, DMA controller, network support source code, and documentation for all custom APIs.

The Alchemy 1200 SoC (system on chip) processor, introduced earlier this year, combines a MIPS32-based core with a media acceleration engine that handles the most demanding parts of video decoding, as well as providing scaling, filtering, and color space conversion for display data. The 1.2V AMD chip also contains a 32-bit LCD controller, a camera interface module for glueless interfacing with CCD/CMOS sensors and analog TVs, and AES encryption/decryption for content DRM (digital rights management). (Further details on the Au1200 SoC are available here.)

AMD's Alchemy DBAu1200 development kit comes equipped with a 1.3-megapixel digital camera and a Quick Start CD that contains a Windows CE demo and media codecs. The CD also contains processor design files, application notes, the YAMON monitoring and debug assist software, and data sheets for each major board component.

Bsquare's Windows CE 5.0 BSP for the AMD Alchemy DBAu1200 development board will be available March 31, 2005 for free download, here. Bsquare also offers Windows Mobile and Embedded development tools and professional services such as training, support and consulting.
