AppForge Inc. and Socket Communications Inc. are collaborating to help Visual Studio and .NET developers create mobile Pocket PC (and Palm OS) applications for Socket's CompactFlash and SDIO Card plug-in bar code scanning modules.

According to AppForge, developers using its Crossfire software can now use Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual Studio .NET to write applications that use Socket's bar code scanners. AppForge says Crossfire makes it easy to add bar code scanning to existing applications, by providing built-in support for setting bar code parameters, sending commands to the scanner, and receiving bar codes as an event within the application.

Socket offers a wide range of CompactFlash and SDIO Card based bar code scanning products to meet a variety of scanning requirements. All of Socket's bar code scanning products are now supported by AppForge's Crossfire software.

The companies say they plan to collaborate on support for all of Socket's future Auto ID products, including a soon-to-be-released cordless hand scanner with Bluetooth wireless technology.
