        Barcode scanning handheld runs Windows CE 5.0

        Wasp Barcode Technologies has introduced a "feature-rich" rugged portable data terminal based on Windows CE 5.0. The WDT3200 features an integrated laser barcode scanner and targets small business data collection applications in manufacturing, retail, warehouse, and distribution, according to the company.

        The WDT3200 is based on a 300 MHz PXA255 processor, and is equipped with 64 MB of SDRAM and 64 MB of flash. Up to 1 GB of additional memory is can be added by means of the integrated SD slot, according to Wasp.

        Key features are said to include:
        • Processor -- PXA255, clocked at 300 MHz
        • Memory -- 64 MB SDRAM; 64 MB flash
        • Display -- 2.7-inch TFT LCD, QVGA, with touchscreen and backlight
        • Keypad -- 36 keys including numeric, alpha, function keys, and more
        • Other I/O:
          • USB
          • Bluetooth
        • Laser scan engine:
          • 104 scans per second
          • 47 +/- 3 degree scan angle
          • read range -- 1.5 to more than 30 inches
        • Battery -- 1950 mAh Li-Ion; 12-hour run time, 4-hour charge time
        • Dimensions -- 7.85 x 2.84 x 1.56 inches (199 x 72 x39 mm)
        • Weight -- 360 g (includes battery pack)
        Prices start at $1,379 including an ergonomic pistol grip or $1,295 without the grip, according to Wasp. The WDT3200 with pistol grip is also available bundled with the company's Mobile Inventory application software, priced at $1,649 for a single user.
