Become a Windows XP expert with "Windows XP Embedded Advanced"

        Craig Choisser | Date: Nov 18, 2003 | Comments: 1

RTC Books says its newest title, Windows XP Embedded Advanced, is the most detailed book available on the subject, and that it allows developers to quickly build and deploy systems based on Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 1. The book includes 29 exercises and requires only a PC development system and a free evaluation copy of Windows XP Embedded to get started, its publisher says.

Exercises include booting from CD-ROM, building headless systems, remote administration, and building custom components. Detailed reference sections and appendices cover the nuts and bolts of custom component development, command languages for advanced systems, and over 125 "Tips and Tricks" that answer the questions most frequently asked on XPE newsgroups. The book also includes a CD-ROM containing sample configuration files, utilities, and solutions.

Author Sean D. Liming, a Microsoft Embedded MVP and author of Windows NT Embedded Step by Step, has been actively involved in the support of Windows XP Embedded, Windows NT Embedded, and Windows CE since their inception. Liming is currently the Windows XP Embedded Manager and XP Embedded class instructor for A7 Engineering.

"Windows XP Embedded Advanced will be of significant value to Windows XP Embedded developers," says John Reardon, President of The RTC Group. "This book and free evaluation software from Microsoft will put engineers well on their way to developing powerful and flexible embedded systems."

Chapter 9, "Headless Systems & Remote Management", is available for download here (18 pages in length, 338KB PDF file).

The book is available on Amazon.com (here) and from bookstores.
