Bsquare has developed Windows CE 5.0 drivers for NXP Semiconductor's family of bridge chips that translate and transport data between buses in mobile devices. The new drivers enable equipment makers to use NXP's SC16IS7xx bridge chip family with Bsquare's DevKit PXA270 development platform, Bsquare said.

NXP's SC16IS7xx chips support multiple standard protocols and interfaces, such as SPI, I2C, and high-speed UARTs. According to NXP, they provide a "seamless bridge" across the most widely used protocols, and save board space when connecting multiple devices for complex applications such as smartphones, set-top boxes, gaming devices, and navigation systems.

Pierre-Yves Lesaicherre, VP of NXP's standard ICs business line, stated, "We chose Bsquare to develop system software for our bridge chips because of its expertise in Windows Embedded CE and in Windows Mobile designs, as well as its relationships to top global OEMs in this market."

A sample UART driver for the SC16IS7xx in source code form, which works with Bsquare's Devkit 270 reference design, is available for download, here.
