Bsquare and Sierra Wireless have announced a collaboration they say will reduce development time and cost for OEMs integrating wireless modules into Windows Mobile or Windows CE devices. companies.

The radio integration service includes Windows Mobile and Windows CE radio interface layer (RIL) software that has been pre-integrated for use with the Sierra Wireless radio drivers and with the Microsoft Windows CellCore radio stack. It supports devices based on Sierra Wireless's GSM and CDMA modules, such as the MC8780 and MC8781 and MC8775 mini PCI Express cards.

Bsquare says it will ship the same optimized software in its DevKit development platforms for the Marvell PXA2xx and PXA3xx application processor families, along with a new Sierra Wireless-based cellular hardware option. The DevKit platforms (the PXA300 version released in July 2007 is shown above) combine a removable processor module with a baseboard that has an onboard display and other peripherals. They ship with Windows CE 5.0 or 6.0 board-support packages (BSPs), technical support, and documentation, according to Bsquare.

        Availability

Bsquare's DevKits for Windows CE and Windows Mobile are available now. However, the versions incorporating Sierra Wireless modules will not be available until the second quarter of this year, according to Bsquare.
