Bsquare reports that its "SDIO Now!" SD and SDIO driver technology program has now surpassed 60 members, including recent OEM/ODM converts Asustek, Eten, Hitachi, Lite-On, Quanta, Welch-Allyn, and an undisclosed "leading global positioning device OEM." According to Bsquare, SDIO Now! helps these OEMs and ODMs rapidly expand the wireless and multimedia flexibility of their Windows Mobile based Smartphone...

        and Pocket PC devices.

Recent peripheral vendors aligning themselves with Bsquare's SDIO Now! technology include Atmel, GlobalSat Technology, ODI, Tactel AB, and Z-Com. Examples of new Input Output (IO) devices utilizing the small SD form-factor include combination wireless and memory, GPS, and 802.11g card solutions, the company says.

Bsquare says its SDIO Now! program helps manufacturers of chipsets, portable devices, card host controllers, and peripherals support the popular Secure Digital (SD) and Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO) standards on devices based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded operating systems. A common development platform with a standard driver architecture and APIs eliminates the need for vendors to write individual drivers for each device, ensuring compatability with various devices regardless of choice of SD host controller or platform architecture.
