Bsquare has announced the completion of an engineering services engagement to support the development of Freescale Semiconductor's Portable Media Center (PMC) reference design. According to Freescale, the reference design can eliminate months of development time in creating portable media devices.

Freescale's "Jazz" reference design, first showcased at the 2004 Windows Embedded DevCon, is compliant with Microsoft's Portable Media Center standard, according to Freescale. The design is based on a Freescale i.MX21 system-on-chip processor, which contains an ARM926EJ-S CPU core.

Bsquare says it performed a series of engineering services for Freescale's PMC reference design project, including planning software development tasks, bringing up Windows CE 5.0 on Freescale's PMC reference design board; optimizing existing device drivers, and implementing new drivers.
