CA says eTrust Antivirus for Windows XP Embedded, offered in the form of a Software Development Kit (SDK), will provide "maximum protection" against viruses, worms, trojans, and a variety of other network-based threats. Purchasers of the SDK will receive updates of virus signatures for ongoing security maintenance.
The deployed antivirus software requires minimal memory footprint, starting at under 6 MB, CA notes, making it ideally suited for use in embedded devices with limited memory resources. Additionally, developers can select which modules and options to deploy based on specific device and application requirements.
eTrust Antivirus integrates directly with Windows Embedded Studio, enabling system builders and developers to leverage development tools and antivirus modules to create custom, security-enhanced XP Embedded operating system images, according to CA.
Management of security policies, such as update frequencies and alerting, is performed from the eTrust Antivirus Admin console. This allows security for Windows XP Embedded devices to be administered in a common manner with other enterprise resources, CA says. Also, administration can easily be performed on an outsourced basis by the device manufacturer, or by a third-party security services provider.
