Connectivity OptionsThree connectivity options are available for use with the NI CF-6004. A shielded cable with bare wires can be used to connect directly to signals, or to a custom connector. Alternatively, a cable with a 15-pin D sub connecter can connect to one of two standard connector blocks available from NI.
The device ships with NI's NI-DAQmx Base driver software, a multiplatform driver with a subset of the NI-DAQmx programming interface. According to the company, engineers can use this to develop customized handheld DAQ applications with the NI
LabVIEW PDA module for PocketPC.
Typical applications where the small size and portability of the CF-6004 might be a benefit, according to NI, include biomedical/wearable computing, field monitoring and diagnostics, and portable data logging and analysis.
"The small size of the CompactFlash DAQ device opens up many new portable data acquisition and monitoring applications," said Tim Dehne, NI senior vice president of research and development. "The concept of virtual instrumentation -- where customers define their own instruments through graphical programming and modular hardware components -- is moving to smaller and smaller form factors, making data acquisition even more convenient and portable."
