        Cingular adds QWERTY Windows Mobile smartphone

        Cingular's answer to the Treo 700w, Motorola Q, and iPAQ hw6900 is...


        the 8100 series based on the HTC Wizard platform. The 8100 is available in two versions -- one with a 1.3Mpixel camera and the other without.

        While this is not Cingular's first smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard, it is the first to run Windows Mobile 5. In addition to the slide out keyboard, the 8100 features built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and push email support using the Windows Mobile 5.0 Messaging and Security Feature Pack.

        Recently, Wake Forest University selected the Cingular 8125 (with camera) for use in a mobile computing wireless technology pilot program that provides students with direct access to schedules, grades, campus directories, and a variety of other useful services.
