Siemens and Cingular have collaborated to bring another version of the "slider-format" PDA/phone made by Taiwanese ODM (original design maker) HTC to the US. The SX66 is a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM "world phone" running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and featuring a QWERTY slide-out keyboard.

The HTC device, known by at least two code names -- "Harrier" and "Blue Angel" -- was previously announced in the US by Verizon and Sprint, and in Germany by T-Mobile. The SX66 supports both Bluetooth and WiFi whereas previously announced versions appear to support Bluetooth only. Also, previous versions support only dual- or tri-band GPRS operation.

The SX66 is powered by a 400 MHz Intel PXA263 processor with 128 MB of RAM. It also comes with an SD slot for flash data storage, plus an IrDA interface and USB synchronization station for data transfers.

According to Siemens, the SX66 features the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework, which allows existing IT investments in .NET applications to easily be leveraged and extended to mobile users.

The SX66 is available from Cingular for $500 after a mail-in rebate with a 2-year contract.
