Adlink has announced a compact "panel PC" that features a fanless, low-power design and integral battery backup. The NuPPC-0701T has a 7-inch touchscreen LCD and is available with Windows XP Embedded preinstalled.

Typical uses for the device are expected to include kiosks, electronic manufacturing, factory automation, and transportation systems, the company said. In addition, since the NuPPC-0701T is less than three inches deep, it can be installed directly within a wall to control a home entertainment system.

The NuPPC-0701T can mount within a wall, for in-home uses

The NuPPC-0701T is based on a 1 GHz Intel Celeron M processor teamed with either 256 or 512 MB of 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Its 7-inch display offers a relatively small resolution, up to 800 x 480 pixels. Screen life is rated at "over ten million touches at one point."

        Specifications include:
        • Processor -- Intel Celeron M clocked at 1.0 GHz
        • Memory -- 256 MB or 512 MB, 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
        • Storage -- CompactFlash socket, Type I or type II, 512 MB card included
        • Video -- built-in 7-inch display, 800 x 480 pixels, 300 nits brightness
        • Networking -- 10/100BaseT Ethernet
        • Other I/O:
          • 3 x USB 2.0
          • mic in, speaker out
        • Power:
          • 16-30 VDC, at 30 watts (max.)
          • Running time on backup battery not specified
        • Operating temperature -- 0 to 55 deg. C
The NuPPC-0701T is listed as coming with a 512 MB CompactFlash card; installation of Windows XP Embedded on the unit presumably requires purchase of a larger memory card. The company says "customization options include CPU type, operating system, and extended IO functions."

The unit costs $1,495 and appears to be available now.
