        Compact, fanless Geode system runs Windows Embedded

        Win Enterprises is shipping a compact, low-cost, fanless "micro-PC" that runs Windows Embedded and features a "dust-proof" chassis. The PL-01030 is based on an AMD Geode LX800 processor, sports dual 10/100 LAN ports, and targets network appliance, point-of-sale, kiosk, medical, entertainment, industrial,...


        and embedded applications.

        The PL-01030 is based on a 500MHz Geode LX800 processor, along with AMD's CS5536 companion chip (northbridge) and WinBond's 83627HG super-I/O chip (southbridge). A single SODIMM socket supports up to 1GB of DDR, clocked up to 400MHz.

        • Processor -- 500MHz AMD Geode LX800
        • Chipset -- Geode CS5536 and WinBond 83627HG
        • Memory -- one DDR SODIMM socket, for up to 1GB
        • Display:
          • Built-in AMD Geode LX800 graphics controller; shares 2 to 254MB of system memory
          • 25-pin VGA port
          • 24-bit TFT LCD interface
          • Optional LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling) kit; supports 18-bit color
        • Storage:
          • Mounting kit for one 2.5-inch drive
          • CompactFlash type II socket
        • I/O ports:
          • 2 x Intel 82551ER or 2 x Realtek 8139CL+ Ethernet controllers
          • 4 x RS232 (RS422/485 is optional for COM 2)
          • 4 x USB 2.0 host ports
          • Parallel printer port
          • Audio I/O
        • Expansion -- Optional PC/104 connector (no ISA bus master, 8-bit I/O)
        • Dimensions -- 8.6 x 5.2 x 2 inches (218 x 132 x 51mm)
        • Power -- +5V DC input, at 12W (typical)
        The PL-01030 supports Windows XP/XPe and Windows CE, according to the company. Linux 2.6 and newer kernels are also supported.

        Availability

        The PL-01030 is available with a choice of Intel or Realtek LANs, priced in single units around $390 (depending on Ethernet chip selection).
