Axiomtek is set to ship a compact, rugged, fanless operator interface computer with a 6.4-inch touchsceen. The GOT-1640T is based on a 1GHz VIA Eden processor, and supports both Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded, among other OSes, according to the company.

The GOT-1640T's NEMA 4/IP65 rated front panel combines a resistive touch-screen overlay with a 640 x 480 pixel, 6.4-inch LCD with 250 nits of brightness, a 300:1 contrast ratio, and a 262,144-color pallet. The device targets limited-space applications; it fits a 200 x 150 mm panel cutout and is only 80 mm deep,

The system comes equipped with an Award BIOS, up to 512 MB of SDRAM, two USB 1.1 interfaces, an Ethernet port, two RS232 serial ports, and one RS232/422/485 serial port. A VIA Twister chip provides integrated graphics. For storage, it can accommodate either a CompactFlash card or 2.5-inch hard drive.

The device also provides several means for expansion, including a PC/104 module socket, a PCMCIA slot, and a CF card slot. Installation options include a mounting arm and a wall mount structure.

In addition to running Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded, the GOT-1640T is also compatible with Windows XP/2000/NT and Linux 2.4, according to Axiom.

The GOT-1640T will be available in mid April, priced from "around $1000" and up, depending on options, according to Axiomtek.
