Protech Systems has released a "book-sized" industrial computer featuring a choice of energy-efficient Pentium M and Celeron M processors. The BPC-8580 supports Windows XP Embedded and is ideal for high-performance, PC-compatible industrial and embedded applications, according to the company.

The BPC-8580 comes in a 3.3-kg package measuring 10.25 x 2.44 x 9.45 inches, about the size of a large hardback book. The device packs a full complement of PC-style interfaces along with three slim drive bays. Additionally, Protech claims the unit is one of the "lowest power consuming industrial computers" and offers "much-needed headroom" for future I/O or display expansion via the optional PCI or AGP slot.
