        Compact, low-power networking platform supports Windows CE, XPe

        WIN Enterprises has unveiled a compact, low power networking platform targeted for networking applications. The PL-01020, which supports Windows CE and XP Embedded, is said to be ideal for low to mid-range networking devices, routers, firewalls, VPN gateways, and internet appliances.

        The 1U high device incorporates an embedded motherboard powered by either a 400MHz or 1GHz VIA Eden CPU equipped with up to 512MB of RAM. Other features include four 10/100 megabit/sec Ethernet ports, two serial ports, and two USB ports. The motherboard provides sockets for adding DiskOnChip flash storage internally, and an IDE interface also enables adding two internal IDE devices.

        Win Enterprises offers custom board support packages (BSPs) for Windows CE and XP Embedded, it says. In addition, the company offers software support for customized applications through a subsidiary, SoluSoft, a Microsoft-certified partner.
