(Click here for larger image)The three new devices in Socket's CF Scan Card Series 5 family are the 5E (entry-level), 5M (mid-range), and 5P (performance). The entry-level 5E model uses the CMOS linear imaging engine from the company's SD Scan Card, and scans most popular linear (1D) bar code symbologies. The 5M and 5P models, with fuzzy logic capability, are based on new Class 1 and Class 2 laser engines from Symbol Technologies that support extended bar code symbologies, such as RSS-14 and RSS-Composite.
Socket provides an SDK for Windows CE that converts scanned bar code characters into "virtual keystrokes" so that any Windows application treats the characters as though they were typed on a keyboard, according to the company. Socket's "SocketScan" software also enables the creation of prefixes and suffixes, such as Tab or Carriage Return, to further eliminate keystrokes in the data collection process. SocketScan works with Windows-based development tools for creating custom applications.
Socket will host a webinar on Wednesday, May 25, at 11:00AM PDT to describe a new "positioning structure" for its entire data collection line, intended to offer "simplicity, flexibility and better value to Socket's customers." Further information and webinar registration are available
