        Creative debuts Portable Media Center at CES

        Digital entertainment device maker Creative Technology unveiled its new Windows-powered Portable Media Center during Microsoft chairman Bill Gates' keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas...


        last night. Portable media centers, formerly codenamed "Media2Go", run Microsoft's "Windows Mobile software for Portable Media Centers" software platform.

        Creative says its "Zen Portable Media Center" can hold hundreds of hours of video and thousands of songs and images. Powered by Windows Mobile software for Portable Media Centers, the Creative Zen Portable Media Center features a large LCD screen, easy-to-navigate controls, a high speed USB 2.0 data transfer port, and "Smart Sync" technology to ease the task of content transfer.

        Creative plans to ship the device in the second half of 2004, at a retail price of around $499 for a version with 20GB of built-in storage. Working prototypes are being demonstrated at Creative's exhibit at the Consumer Electronics Show, #13615 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Microsoft and Intel will also show prototype Creative players at CES in their product exhibits.
