DT Research announced an all-in-one signage appliance designed to run the company's digital signage software using Windows Embedded Standard 2009. The DS2200 includes a 22-inch display with optional touchscreen, a 1.5GHz processor, and either SSD (solid state disk) or hard disk storage, according to the company.

Like previous DT Research devices such as the SA1000, SA1004, and SA2000, the all-in-one DS2200 (right) is designed to run the company's WebDT Signage System, developed with the assistance of embedded software specialist Bsquare. The System allows the use of existing programming as content for digital signs or kiosks, according to the companies.

One component of the system is WebDT Content Manager, web-based server software that is said to provide central management of the company's hardware products -- dubbed "media players." Messages are assembled, scheduled, and delivered for dynamic playback over one or more displays using standard file formats and protocols, according to the company.

The second component, WebDT Device Manager, is described as a tool for remotely managing networked WebDT hardware clients. It uses a web browser as a front end to a SQL database management system, and is designed to inventory, organize, control, and update an ensemble of devices, no matter where they are located. For more information on the software, see our earlier coverage, here.

The DS2200 also resembles previous DT Research devices in that it is said to employ an unspecified, 1.5GHz x86 processor, backed by 1GB of RAM. Windows Embedded Standard 2009, the operating system of choice, is stored on from two to 16GB of flash storage, a 32 or 64GB SSD, or a 2.5-inch hard disk drive, the company says.

According to DT Research, the DS2200 incorporates a 22-inch display that offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and is available with optical infrared touchscreen functionality. The latter also provides water and dust resistance with an IP65 rating, ideal for high-traffic areas, restaurants, and warehouse placements, the company says.

The DS2200 is available with an optional touchscreen

The DS2200 includes stereo speakers, audio jacks (mic in, line in, line out), two USB 2.0 ports, and one serial port, DT Research says. Networking is said to include both a standard 10/100 Ethernet port and optional 802.11b/g wireless.

DT Research says there are five buttons on the side of the DS2200: one for power, and four that are user-programmable. The 18.1-pound device is VESA-compliant and is available with an optional desktop stand, as pictured earlier in this story, the company adds.

Specifications listed by DT Research for the DS2200 include:

  • Processor -- 1.5GHz x86 CPU
  • Chipset -- n/s
  • Memory -- 1GB of RAM (expandability not cited)
  • Display -- 22-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution; optional IR touchscreen with IP65 rating
  • Storage:
    • 2GB to 16GB of flash storage
    • 32GB or 64GB SSD
    • 2.5-inch bay for hard disk drive
  • Networking:
    • LAN -- 10/100 Ethernet
    • WLAN -- 802.11a/b/g (optional)
  • Other I/O:
    • 2 x USB 2.0
    • 1 x serial
    • Audio -- mic line, line in, line out
  • Power requirements -- 18VDC input from AC adapter (100 to 240VAC)
  • Operating temperature -- 32 to 104 deg. F (0 to 40 deg. C)
  • Dimensions -- 20.8 x 12.6 x 2.8 inches (528 x 319 x 70mm)
  • Weight -- 18.1 pounds (8.2kg)
Further information

According to DT Research, the DS2200 is available now, though pricing was not provided. More information may be found on the company's website, here.
