re-editing recorded discs, the company says.
AuthorScript CE 6 includes modules for converting video and audio data into DVD- and VCD-compliant streams, formatting and burning DVD-Video and VCD projects, data recording on DVDs and CDs, music CD ripping and burning, DVR recording and timeshifting, DVD-Video and VCD playback, and audio CD playback.
Sonic offers an SDK (software development kit) to help device makers build DVD/CD burning/playback capabilities into products such as cable and satellite receivers, DVRs, media centers, and Digital TVs. AuthorScript would allow cable customers to save programs to standard, play-anywhere DVDs thus freeing up recording space on the DVR's hard drive, for example.
Sonic says that TiVo's recently released
TiVo ToGo service is based on the AuthorScript engine. The package also provides the DVD formatting and burning functionality built into Microsoft's Windows XP
Media Center Edition. The AuthorScript CE 6 SDK is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2005.
