Visual CE provides a drag-and-drop GUI development environment that enables both business professionals and developers to easily create "feature-rich data-centric" applications for Windows Mobile devices with little or no programming, according to Syware.
The new update allows developers to create a single application that can run on "all" types of Windows Mobile devices with "minor modifications," Syware added. Examples cited of supported smartphones include the
Motorola Q and the
Samsung Blackjack.
Visual CE's new smartphone functionality was
initially released for beta testing in February. The final production code has apparently been folded into
version 10 of Visual CE, which was initially released in October of last year. The smartphone update is available free upon request to "most registered users" of Visual CE 10.x, the company said.
Visual CE is offered in two versions: Personal edition, priced at $129, which includes full forms design, relational database, and synchronization capabilities and is intended for individual use; and Professional edition, priced at $399, which includes all the functionality of the Personal edition plus royalty-free application distribution rights, according to Syware.
Visual CE is also offered in conjunction with the company's Mobile 360 Suites, which include additional mobility tools, such as
mEnable wireless connectivity software,
Report CE reporting and printing software, sqlceEnable SQL Everywhere supporting software, and the previously mentioned Manage CE utility.
