Datalight announced today that its FlashFX 6.1 flash file system will ship with Applied Data Systems' (ADS) Bitsy-X single-board computers (SBCs). Based on an Intel PXA255 processor and Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2, the ADS Bitsy-X is a compact SBC aimed at handheld, instrumentation, medical monitoring, and other battery-powered embedded applications.
FlashFX will manage the Bitsy-X's resident flash memory.
According to Datalight, FlashFX is tailored to take full advantage of the latest Windows CE .NET 4.2 operating system. Although Windows CE .NET now includes basic functionality for flash memory management, FlashFX provides more comprehensive functionality, access to source code, thorough documentation, and technical support from Datalight, the company noted.
Based on patented technology, FlashFX simplifies working with flash memory by presenting a block-oriented interface to the file system and applications, while hiding the more complex issues involved in using flash memory technology, Datalight said. FlashFX provides an API which enables the design of field upgrade utility software which stores the existing image while the update is taking place.
