Writing on the XP Embedded Team's blog, tester Lynda Allen writes, "The chat was focused on the Indian market and handled some basic topics of interest to developers new to XP Embedded, and also covered how XPe differentiates itself from Microsoft's other Embedded product offerings. We appreciated participants from India signing on and asking questions even though it was 9PM Indian time."
As Allen's comments suggest, most of the questions and answers in the chat were somewhat more introductory than the norm. Therefore, looking at the transcript should be of special use to those who are just learning about Microsoft's embedded operating systems.
Questions in the December 4th chat included:
- What is the difference between Windows XP Embedded and Windows CE?
- What is an embedded system? And how can XP be an embedded operating system?
- Are there any books on XP Embedded?
- We have a couple of solutions using Windows CE but are not clear why we should move to XP Embedded ...
- Does Windows XP Embedded support ARM processors?
- What is the smallest XP Embedded device in production?
- Is XP Embedded a better choice than XP Pro for thin clients? Why or why not?
- What type of boot media does XPe support? Can you boot from Flash? USB Disk on Key?
- You have to build Windows CE from source code. Does XP Embedded get built the same way?
- Is XP Embedded real-time?
