EmbeddedFusion has released a hardware/software development kit for programmers working with the .NET Micro Framework, Microsoft's new low-end embedded software platform.

The Tahoe Development Kit includes a CPU module along with "ready-to-run" application software, according to the company.

The Tahoe kit is built around EmbeddedFusian's Meridian CPU module, which in turn is based on the Freescale i.MXS processor, an ARM920T derivative. The board includes 8 MB of SDRAM and 2 MB of flash memory, with options for up to 8 MB of flash. Peripheral interfaces include two UARTs, SPI, I2C, and USB. Additionally, from 16 to 32 general purpose I/O lines are available, depending on how the peripherals are configured.

In addition to the CPU module, hardware included in the kit includes a 2.7-inch LCD, a small expansion board with nine push-buttons, and a power supply. The kit also comes with a CD that contains documentation, an SDK, and "lot's of sample code," including custom emulator extensions and managed drivers, according to the company.

According to EmbeddedFusion CTO Steve Maillet, "The .NET Micro Framework is a significant new tool in building embedded systems. Developers can use C# to write more reliable code compared with C or assembler, and they have a fantastic development environment in Visual Studio."

"The Tahoe platform is a great development system, as it allows early development and experimentation while providing a clear transition path into production," Maillet adds.

EmbeddedFusion is currently "taking orders" for the Tahoe Development kit, priced at about $300.
