Altia has revised its PhotoShop plug-in aimed at helping graphic artists create interactive mockups of device interfaces, without help from programmers. PhotoProto 1.05 is said to be "literally twenty times faster" when creating GUI mockups out of large Photoshop files with hundreds of layers.

Altia shipped PhotoProto 1.0 in October. The user interface design toolkit is implemented as a PhotoShop plug-in that produces files designed to work with Altia's suite of simulation, modeling, and code generation tools. Supported platforms include Windows CE, Linux, VxWorks, QNX, TI OMAP, and Solaris, while target applications include concept demonstrations, usability testing, requirements capture, and team/customer feedback generation, the company said.

In addition to much faster performance, PhotoProto 1.05 offers:
        • A new error/warning summary view at the end of the GUI build process
        • 3D models/objects are now supported on the Mac
        • Support for Windows Vista and Windows XP configurations which may have limited user access environments
Altia's customers include major automotive, transportation, defense, medical, and consumer electronics companies, it said.

        Availability

PhotoProto 1.05 is shipping now. Pricing was not disclosed.
