Adurance has used a customized BlueShark Technologies thin client device running Windows XP Embedded as the basis of a "dynamic digital signage" system. The Apriza 5700DSC connects over the Web to Adurance's "My Ad-Player" signage server, and also provides local control.

Adurance's My Ad-Player application is a Web-based software platform that delivers digital signage for display on TV screens and computer monitors. Typical applications are said to include restaurants, retail stores, shopping malls, trade shows, company lobbies, medical facilities, hotels, theaters, casinos, airports, museums, and schools, according to Adurance.

Messages are hosted on Adurance's Web-based secure server and delivered to the display via the Apriza 5700DSC thin client, with no special software required on the client side, according Adurance. An online demo shows examples of typical My Ad-Player signage.

According to BlueShark, Adurance needed a device that could produce a TV-like borderless image on displays of various sizes, shapes, and technologies. Additionally, it was desired to have an easy-to-use, browser-based management and content development environment.

The resulting Apriza 5700DSC is a variant of BlueShark's Apriza 5700. The 5700 is powered by a 1 GHz low-power Via C3 processor with 256 MB of DDR RAM and 256 MB of IDE Flash memory, and runs Windows XP Embedded. It supports both VGA and DVI video outputs, with resolutions up to 1600x1200 in 16-bit color.

BlueShark plans to release additional special-purpose thin client devices along the lines of the 1700DSC that meet customers and partners needs. "This is the first step in our broader strategy to deliver customized embedded solutions leveraging our thin client desktop technology," said BlueShark CEO Tony Giovaniello.
