        Drivers add 3D audio to Windows Mobile apps

        SRS announced immediate availability of its low-level drivers for the audio processing component of the company's "WOW XT for Mobile" 3D audio enhancement software. SRS says the drivers are available for any ARM-based microprocessor handsets or devices that run Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 operating systems, including Pocket PCs and Smartphones.



        The company says that because its drivers operate at the lowest level of the device's software stack, they enable entertainment audio such as game sounds, music, and audio associated with video playback to be processed with SRS audio enhancement technologies, regardless of the application in use. Previously, device manufacturers needed to call the SRS WOW library from each application; but that is no longer necessary with these drivers, according to SRS.

        SRS claims that its WOW XT for Mobile technology offers the industry's first complete audio and voice enhancement solution that improves the quality of audio content and voice communications as well as provides valuable audio management utility techniques for any imbedded mobile device.

        Earlier this week, SRS unveiled a new version of its WOW XT for Mobile technology, comprising the following three suites of utilities:
        • For Audio Enhancement:
          • New single speaker enhancement techniques to create stereo image from one speaker
          • Improved control for greater width over stereo speaker designs

        • For Voice Processing:
          • New in-channel noise reduction technology

        • For Audio Management:
          • New SRS ALMS (Audio Level management Suite) that manages all audio levels and prevents clipping

        What's WOW?

        SRS Labs describes WOW as follows:
