        EPIC SBC aims Windows Embedded at M2M

        WinSystems has introduced an EPIC-format SBC (single-board computer) targeting M2M (machine-to-machine) applications.


        The EPX-GX packs 11 on-board I/O interfaces, expands via a choice of miniPCI and PC/104 modules, and supports both Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded, according to the company.

        The EPX-GX is based on a Pentium-class AMD GX500@1W processor. On-board input/output interfaces include:
        • 4x AGP Video with CRT and digital flat panel interface
        • Keyboard controller and PS/2 mouse
        • AC 97 audio
        • Floppy drive interface
        • 66 IDE
        • 10/100 Ethernet
        • 2 USB ports
        • 4 serial ports
        • 24 digital I/O lines
        • Parallel printer port
        • Bootable Type I and II CompactFlash
        • Expansion:
          • PC/104
          • PC/104-Plus
          • miniPCI
        Optional I/O ports include a GPS receiver, 802.11 transceiver, and 12-bit A/D converter with 8 single-ended or 4 differential channels, according to the company.

        A company spokesperson told WindowsForDevices that "the EPX-GX board is fully tested with Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, and Linux. A fully functional board is sent to each engineer that specializes in the respective operating system so that it can be fully tested along with drivers for specialty onboard I/O."

        Availability

        Delivery of the EPX-GX is from stock to three weeks, with a price of $499 in "OEM quantities," according to WinSystems. A Quick Start kit and developers package are also available with support for Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, and the 2.6 Linux kernel.
