Ampro has upped the performance of its EPIC form-factor SBC (single-board computer) line, with a model based on a 1.8 GHz Pentium M 745. The high-end option extends the company's ReadyBoard SBCs into applications requiring full-fledged PC performance without the larger ATX-style footprints, according to the company.

In addition to the new, high-end processor, the ReadyBoard 800 features an Intel 82855 chipset and up to 1 GB of DDR 333 SODIMM RAM. Other available processor options include an ultra low voltage Celeron M at either 800 MHz or 1 GHz, or a low voltage Pentium M clocked at 1.4 GHz.

Other ReadyBoard 800 features, according to Ampro, include:
        • AGP 128-bit 3D video interface with built-in dual-channel LVDS up to 64MB UMA frame buffer
        • Enhanced Ultra DMA 33/66/100 synchronous IDE interface supports up to two hard drives
        • CompactFlash socket
        • Gigabit and 10/100 Ethernet
        • 4 USB 2.0
        • 4 serial, 2 RS232, 2 RS232/422/485
        • AC97 sound ports
        • PS/2 keyboard and mouse
        • 8 GPIO
        • PCI-104 expansion bus
Additionally, an optional "MiniModule" card provides a bridge between PCI-104 and the ISA-compatible PC/104 bus, according to Ampro.

        Availability

The 1.8 GHz ReadyBoard 800 is available immediately with prices starting in the "upper $600's" in production quantities, according to Ampro.

A QuickStart kit is available that includes the ReadyBoard 800 and BSPs (board support packages) for Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, VxWorks, QNX, and a full Linux 2.6 distribution. The board is also offered as part of a complete system that includes a power supply, 40 GB hard drive, and pre-loaded operating system.
