Elo says its 19R systems (pictured, left) are designed to "withstand the rigors of public venues such as retail display units, customer loyalty systems, point of information systems, internet access sites, [and] digital signage." The devices, touted for their frameless "zero-bezel" technology, are said to use the company's acoustic pulse recognition, as did the 17-inch Elo 17A2 released in 1988.According to Elo, its acoustic pulse technology works via ultrasonic waves, recognizing the sound created when the screen is touched at a particular position. Resistant to scratches, water, and other contaminants, the display may be operated via a stylus, finger, fingernail, or gloved hands, the company says. The screen never needs recalibrating, the company adds.
The 19R1 and 19R2 both feature 19-inch displays with a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and a 1000:1 contrast ratio, says Elo. The devices differ in that the 19R2 employs a dual-core, 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 processor, while the 19R2 includes a dual-core Intel Pentium E5300 CPU. The former is paired with the 945GC northbridge and ICH7 southbridge, while the latter is paired with the Q35 northbridge and ICH9D) southbridge, the company adds.
According to Elo, the 19R1 has a single gigabit Ethernet port, one internal SATA I port, a S/PDIF digital audio output, and an external parallel port. The 19R2, meanwhile, has two gigabit Ethernet ports, three internal SATA II ports, and an internal serial port, the company adds.
Elo says the 19R1 and 19R2 are also different in that the former is available with an optional TV tuner and includes a single 32-bit PCI slot, whereas the latter has one PCI Express x16 slot and one PCI Express Mini Card. Also, the 19R2 has a 160GB hard disk instead of the 19R1's 80GB drive, and is expandable to 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB.
Other than this, the 19R1 and 19R2 have identical specifications, including VGA ports for external displays, external serial ports, two external USB 2.0 ports, and three internal USB 2.0 ports, according to the company. Both PCs also have triple 3.5mm audio jacks, for mic in, line in, and line out, adds Elo.
The 19R1 and 19R2 are available with or without Windows XP already installed, and also support WEPOS (Windows Embedded for Point of Sale Systems) and Vista, the company says. The PCs are said to weigh 23.5 pounds each, include 100mm VESA mounts, and offer a removable base.
