embedded Bluetooth module shown above.
Socket says the small form-factor, WiFi-certified 802.11b/g module will offer fast data throughput, and will provide a "seamless roaming experience" when moving from one access point to another.
The module will be supported by software and driver developer kits intended to make it easy for third-party application developers to create and integrate WiFi applications, according to the company.
"There is a huge demand in the market to support organizations with smaller scale deployment volume and different operating systems," said Shail Talati, product manager for Socket's WLAN division. "The 802.11b/g Module will enable device manufacturers to focus on their core competencies while leveraging Socket's expertise in Wireless LAN hardware, low-level device drivers, and application software."
AvailabilitySamples of the 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Module will be available in the second quarter with general availability in Q3, according to Socket. Interested parties are advised to contact the company for further details and to get on the list for early evaluation samples.
