SecureWave says that its endpoint security software has been qualified for use with Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS). "Sanctuary for Embedded Devices" for WEPOS and Windows XP Embedded is a componentized version of the company's policy enforcement suite that includes Device Control and Application Control functions.

Sanctuary 4.0 uses as single console to integrate views and reports of application and I/O device activity and their interaction, as well as the attempted use of unauthorized applications and devices. Application and device access rights can be granted to a specific device or device class, individual users, user groups, and more, according to SecureWave.

The company says that Sanctuary guards against unauthorized programs and malware while ensuring device stability, optimal network performance, and high availability. It also enables enterprises to maintain "complete" control over portable devices such as removable USB storage and Bluetooth keyboards that can interact with "next-generation endpoints."

According to Bertrand Manhe, SecureWave's director of strategic alliances, "Traditionally, endpoints were easily defined -- a desktop, laptop PC, or printer -- but today, an endpoint can be anything from a smart phone to an ATM machine, making the security paradigm even more complex."

"By meeting the criteria set forth by Windows Embedded for Point of Service, SecureWave strengthens our commitment to protect corporate data and assets, no matter where they reside," Manhe added.

Sanctuary has met all the requirements established in the Verification Testing program for WEPOS and is now listed in the Windows Embedded for Point of Service catalog, according to the company.
