As with
version 1.1, introduced in May, SDIO Hx supports SDHC (SD 2.0 High Capacity) storage cards in sizes up to 32 GB. Additionally, Bsquare claims this to be the only stack that allows device-makers to support multiple SDIO slots with a single host controller.
Like the
High-Speed WLAN SDIO Driver introduced by SyChip earlier this month, the SDIO Hx stack exemplifies the trend toward using SDIO to add WiFi and other capabilities to mobile advices. As noted above, the new version now offers throughput of up to 13 Mbps.
Bsquare VP of products Raj Khera stated, "OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] who build mobile devices are increasingly using Secure Digital bus architecture as a way to more simply and cost-effectively implement 802.11g Wi-Fi, WiMax radio, GPS tuner, and DVB-T/H tuner capabilities. By incorporating SDIO Hx version 1.2 software into their devices, they can offer their customers much faster data transfer speeds."
According to Bsquare, Version 1.2 of SDIO Hx now supports twice as many different embedded application processors as before, including those from Freescale, Marvell, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments. The stack is said to support sample drivers for the host controllers resident in the following processors:
According to Bsquare, SDIO Hx version 1.2 is available now, though pricing was not disclosed. It supports Windows CE 5.0 and 6.0 along with Windows Mobile 5.32 and 6.0.
