FlashFX Pro is a flash media manager that is said to offer drop-in support for over 200 different flash parts. Datalight claims that FlashFX Pro can improve read latency by up to three orders of magnitude on NOR flash memory, and that average apparent write speeds are 200 percent faster on NOR flash and 125 percent faster on NAND flash.
According to Datalight, FlashFX Pro ensures fault-tolerant data integrity by never overwriting currently stored data, and by keeping data intact at the block device driver level. Additionally, the software performs wear-leveling, which contributes to longer flash memory life. Another benefit of FlashFX Pro, according to the company, is its support for NOR, NAND, NAND controllers, and hybrid flash parts within a single driver. This lets device-makers "second-source" flash components without having to halt production to redevelop or retune flash drivers.
Reliance is a file system said to give developers control over performance without risking data corruption. It is claimed to work with "virtually any" block device driver, including those for flash memory, DiskOnChip, ATA, and SCSI devices. According to Datalight, Reliance, a "drop-in" replacement for Windows CE's native FAT file system, offers a transaction-based approach that results in an "always consistent" file system, and that safeguards data in the event of power loss or other system crashes.
Ilya Bukshteyn, Microsoft's director of Windows Embedded Marketing, stated, "We are pleased to have Datalight's support for Windows Embedded CE 6.0. Datalight technology... will give our customers a new level of performance and reliability."
Reliance and FlashFX Pro are available now, as are development kits for Windows CE 6.0. Pricing was not disclosed.
