Credant's "Be Mobile. Be Secure" initiative announcement was coupled with the release of Credant Mobile Guardian (CMG) Group Edition, which targets deployments of 1,000 or less. Credant says the product serves the needs of organizations which have "identified groups of high-risk mobile users and are now under pressure to implement a solution that demonstrates compliance with internal or federally-mandated standards, and mitigates risk to the organization."
According to Credant, CMG Group Edition provides robust on-device security, including mandatory PIN/password, industry-strength encryption, and automatic fail-safe "kill" options that protect an organization against lost or stolen mobile devices. Additionally, the product supports policy options that:
- Enable users to reset their own PIN or password if forgotten
- Disable the use of communication ports such as Bluetooth and I/O slots to prevent the storage of data on external storage cards
- Disable the use of the built-in camera and microphone that could be used to record confidential events.
Credant claims that CMG Group Edition is easy to implement. Security administrators can centrally define security policies and create CREDANT Mobile Guardian Shield client images for individual users or groups of users using a PC-based CMG policy editor. Shield client images can be distributed to users via synchronization with a PC, traditional distribution procedures, or can be downloaded from a web site.
